iNotes 8.5.1 - ActiveX

We would like to solve this situation: We have two Lotus Domino 8.5.1 Servers in Cluster. Users access to their mail databases through iNotes using especially Internet Explorer 6,7,8. There isn’t ActiveX installed in browsers because of policy reason. How to suppress information bar about ActiveX instalation need in browser? It’s disturbing for our users.

Note: Notes.ini parameter iNotes_WA_ConfirmBlockedActiveX doesn’t work.

Subject: Info

I believe the only way to disable the information bar is to add the iNotes server URL to trusted sites and change the IE settings. I think the inotes ini prevents the push of the ActiveX for each request that may need it.

Subject: Problem solved.

After a full 2 days, the problem has been solved…

The server I was using is an internal development server. The server was configured to use IIS with the redirect for Lotus Domino. Thus, Lotus Domino server http task was listening on port 81, not the default port 80.

When accessing the server via hostname.com - This website is for sale! - hostname Resources and Information., IIS was redirecting me, and I was able to login, authenticate, and use the newly upgraded mail database, but the I was never prompted to install the ActiveX controls.

However, accessing the Domino server directly, using http://server.hostname.com:81/mail/maildb.nsf, I was able to log in, and as soon as I did, iNotes prompted me to install the ActiveX components…

This should not be an issue for me during the upgrade of my production server.

Thought I would share this with anyone who might find themselves in this situation.

Subject: Browser Cache Management

In case the the information bar about ActiveX installation need is the one you see right after you log into iNotes - It comes from the ActiveX that controls the IE’s extension for automatic cache scrubbing, which we call “Browser Cache Management”.

You can disable the feature by going to iNotes tab in server configuration document.
