Inheriting Data and needing to click inside form

I have a person form and a document form. You can create a document from the person form. I need the document form to carry the value of a field over from the person form. I’ve set the person form to inherit data, I’m using fields of the same name (text), and the field on the document form has a default value = fieldname.

When I first open the person form, and click Create New Document, the fields don’t carry over. If I instead click inside any area of the person form (even though its in read mode) and then click Create New Document, the fields carry over. It looks like the document can be open but not “selected”, if that makes any sense. How do I force the document to be selected to allow field inheritance?

sounds like the open document is losing focus. not sure how that is happening. maybe you can place the Create New Document button on the actual document instead of in the action bar. This was when the button is clicked it will return focus to the open document.

Thanks Paul,

Changing my action buttons to button hotspots in the form fixed it. If the button is in the form it can’t “lose focus”. I have several DB’s where this has been an issue, so its a welcome fix. Thanks again.
