Incorrect Sender on emails

On three seperate occasions, people within my company have received emails incorrectly listed as sent by myself. The emails are always between staff, so are sent purely internally by Notes - not to an external address. The emails are forwards of other messages, but my name isn’t always in the forwarding chain ealrier.

The one saving grace is that the message is from myself, but lists the true sender as a “sent by” underneath my name.

There are only 3 of these so far, which isn’t a lot to work with spotting patterns.

The server is a Domino 6.5.1 that was upgraded from 5.0.12 2 months ago, running on Windows 2000 SP4 (at least one of the emails predates the upgrade). I have tried re-building all indexes inthe Domino Directory & have been over the configuration of the server & there is nothing there.

It is a very rare error, which is all the more puzzling as I would expect an incorrect setting somewhere to show up a lot more often.

Has anyone seen this before? DO you have any suggestions?

You are probably incorrectly listed as the ‘owner’ of the mail file. Mail is sent from the owner with a ‘Sent by’ if the owner is not the person named in the id file being used (Tools / Preference to set the owner)

Thanks for that: I hadn’t though to check it. Unfortunately, the user is listed as the owner of the mail file.

Right! Finally found it. Another two such emails showed up, both from me, but with the same “Sent by” person. It was not this person’s email - he was the owner of his file. I had set up a “helpdesk” email box that he was in charge of emptying & replying to. So I was the owner of that box, hence my name on the emails.

The bit that got me was that he was looking at a huge list of emails in my name every day. And never thought it worth mentioning.

The times i’ve seen this it’s been due to an incorrect Mail File Owner in the mail files prefrances. Open one of the mails files from whom these mails have come, click on the tools button, select prefrances and check on the first screen of the dialog box what name is in the ‘This mail file belongs to:’ field. I’m guessing it currently has yours.

Thanks for your suggestion, but on checking, the other person is listed as the mail-file owner, not myself. No new “incorrect” messages hve been found since I last posted.
