Incorrect number of unread mails

Hi,

we often got wrong numbers of unread mails behind the inbox folder name, e.g. all are read, but the inbox still shows (3), or new mails have arrived, and the inbox stays “unbold”.

Server is R6, client 6.0.1 database ODS version is 43.

Subject: sent view with clustered server?

Messages you send end up in your sent view, and these messages replicate to other servers or a local replica, too. I’ve seen messages I sent on Server A replicate to Server B ( a clustermate) and turn up unread there. This happens because clusters are not aware of unread marks, they don’t replicate in a cluster! As the sent view is not aware of unread messages either, it’s not shown ‘bold’, even though it contains these supposedly unread documents.

So, in my case, when I seem to have these ‘ghost’ unread marks, it’s almost always old emails in the sent view, that I sent from a replica of my mailfile on the other cluster member.

Unread marks are still ‘broken’ in 6.5 as well.

Try foll. procedure…it works…

  1. Mark all mails as “Read”

  2. Close Lotus notes.

  3. go to lotus\notes\data and delete file “cache.ndk”.

  4. Start Notes, Go to workspace , Right click on empty space, select workspace properties.

  5. Go to second Tab i.e.settings, click on compact button. This will compact your workspace.

6.Now send a test mail to yourself. The count will be perfect…

Thanks,

Sheela

Uwe, Unfortunately, unread marks still are “flaky” in R6. I inform my users to simply select Edit, Unread Marks, Mark all Read from the menu bar and this seems to remove the “phantom” unread marks as well.

Hi,

support told me that 6.0.1 if used on both server and clients will fix at 90% all the unread mark problem.

I’m waiting 6.0.1 italian language pack in order to upgrade to 6.0.1 and see what happens.

Simone

OK - then I have to do the same with the german client…

… but… on my own english 6.0.1 client I have the same effect! Maybe the reason is the server is still 6.0 (update will be next week, if e.g. the monitoring problem in this forum won’t get more serious…)
