Incoming Mail from Relay Host

We are running our inbound and outbound email thru a relay host to scan it for spam and viruses. Outbound, I can see the mail going out and it is received without issue.

The problem I am having is with the inbound mail. I can see it come in and appear to try to transfer it to my notes user and then I see it going right back out.

The relay host is an internal SMTP Mail Server running the SMTP from Microsoft IIS and we are using GFI MailSercurity and MailEssentials to scan for spam and viruses.

Here is an excerpt from my log.

01/02/2007 07:48:31 PM SMTP Server: opman.abc.com (10.10.10.100) connected

01/02/2007 07:48:32 PM SMTP Server: Message 0009EFB4 (MessageID: 1831.69412.qm@web32801.mail.mud.yahoo.com) received

01/02/2007 07:48:32 PM SMTP Server: opman.abc.com (10.10.10.100) disconnected. 1 message[s] received

01/02/2007 07:48:33 PM Router: Transferring mail to domain [10.10.10.100] (host 10.10.10.100 [10.10.10.100]) via SMTP

01/02/2007 07:48:33 PM Router: Transferred 1 messages to [10.10.10.100] (host 10.10.10.100) via SMTP

I am sure that I have a setting wrong in my Mail Configuration. I just don’t see what it is.

My Router/SMTP configuration

I have my relay host set for the [10.10.10.100] address of the relay host.

Then on the SMTP Inbound Controls tab I have the following:

1)In the Inbound Relay controls I have a * in the fourth item down.

2)Under Relay enforcement I have it as External Hosts, [10.10.10.100] for my excluded domain, and then Allow all authenticated users to relay

Any help is appreciated!

I don’t think the problem is with your Inbound Relay controls, because you are accepting mails from your Relay server.

It appears that your SMTP mail is in a routing loop. Your SMTP server is receiving mail from 10.10.10.100 and then just routing it straight back to 10.10.10.100 instead of delivering it to your users.

That indicates that your Domino server doesn’t know that the messages are intended to be delivered locally and so is just relaying back to the internet. If your domain is ‘abc.com’ then messages addressed to ‘username@abc.com’ should be automatically delivered to your users.

Since this is not happening:

In the Domino Directory under Configuration\Messaging\Domains you should have a Domain of type ‘Global Domain’ Inside document there will be a ‘Conversions’ tab with ‘SMTP Address Conversion’ information. The Local primary Internet domain: should be set to ‘abc.com’ or whatever your internet domain is called. If you host multiple internet domains then you add them under ‘Alternate Internet domain aliases’.

Thank! This fixed my problem. I had forgotten about this field when I moved the server out of our test environment!
