Incoming mail address(es) that I don't want

Hope you can help.

Our addressing protocol is first inital surname@acme.com eg jsmith@acme.com .

It has been noticied that users though can mail john@acme.com as well as johnsmith@acme.com also. How do I stop all the other variations on the names.

Having looked at the person documents the only place “john” is mentioned is in the firstname section. The internet address has only one address

This is a basic configuration… your current configuration is wide-opened for spamming.

Create a Server Configuration document (if you don’t have one). Then go to “Router / SMTP” / “Basics” then Address Lookup and select “Fullname only” :

Router/SMTP Basics

Number of mailboxes:

SMTP used when sending messages outside of the local internet domain:

Enabled

SMTP allowed within the local internet domain:

Disabled

Servers within the local Notes domain are reachable via SMTP over TCPIP:

Always

Address lookup:

Fullname only

I would also suggest the following configuration to prevent from having Dead mail in your mail.box :

“Router / SMTP” / “Restrictions and Controls” / “SMTP Inbound control”

then set like this :

Inbound Intended Recipients Controls

Verify that local domain recipients exist in the Domino Directory:

Enabled

Restart the router task on your server.

Subject: RE: Incoming mail address(es) that I don’t want

I have 2 Outgoing and 2 incoming SMTP Domino boxes. Should this setting be only set on the Incoming Server?

My problem is the dead messages on the Outgoing Server. What setting should be setup on the Outgoing Servers?

I actually set this up on the outgoing server and it blocked all messages. Any help…
