Incoming emails show [IMAGE]

I have a client that all of a sudden has incoming Internet HTML emails showing [IMAGE] everywhere in place of images.

I’ve removed the perweb.nsf file out of Notes and restarted. What else can I do?

Also, when I use the Web Access to view his email, it also shows incorrect, showing the [IMAGE] placeholders.

Thank you for all your help!

This sounds like a proxy issue. Usually HTML emails go back out to retrieve the images. Was there any changes to the network (proxy, firewall)?

Subject: RE: Incoming emails show [IMAGE]

There weren’t any changes to the firewall, and we don’t use proxy.

Again, this only affects one user’s mailbox.

Well, something changed for that user… Looks like you’ve got some investigating to do. Compare the affected user’s Person Document to someone’s that doesn’t experience the issue, as well as the Location Documents. Do you have a backup of the NAB or Client from before the problem began. You can compare those documents to see what changed. I assume all users have the same policies or none at all.Good luck!

Some more details. This happened sometime between Dec 30th 2004 and Jan 7th, 2005. For the user in question, he saved all the emails from a weekly HTML email service. Dec 30th shows a full website email, looks great. The Jan 7th email is the broken one with all the [IMAGE] placeholders.

So, what happened in between that time, I don’t know yet. Also, it should have NOTHING to do with any client settings, because if I use the web interface, I can open the Dec 30th email and it looks fine. The Jan 7th one does not.

I’ve checked Person documents for users with the problem and without, and I can’t find any differences.

What else can I try???

Thank you!

In the person document in Domino Directory try changing Format preference for incoming mail to Prefers MIME.

It is possible that your antivirus software on the SMTP server is the cause. Is the format for incoming mail “Keep in senders’ format”?

Subject: RE: Incoming emails show [IMAGE]

We only use Symantec Antivirus Corp Ed. on the server. ‘Keep in sender’s format’ is the setting on the person’s Person document.

This is not affecting ANYONE else (25 other users).
