Some of our users are having a problem where the inbox folder (top left) shows a number that indicates they have unopened mail. But in the inbox, and in all documents view all the mail is opened. Is there a way to reset this counter so it is correct ?
Subject: Unread marks issues
This is a problem that can happen sometimes, and the issue usually lies within the database itself. There are a few things you can try.
-
Mark all documents read in the database (and on all other replicas, too)
-
Delete the cache.ndk on the machine
-
If these steps don’t work, try making a new copy of the mailfile, this usually resolves the issue
Subject: The fix
Hi Andrew thanks for your response. What I ended up having to do was run fixup and updall on the mail file, then replace the design of the mail file with a non-mail template, then replace the design of the mail file again with a mail template, and all is well again. Thanks for your response.
Subject: This issue may be Technoted as well…
Hi Pat,
I have often seen instances where a Folder states the incorrect number of documents as Unread. There is a Technote on this issue. The easiest workaround is to Select all documents in the View/Folder and Mark them “Unread”. Then, reselect all the documents in that view and Mark them “Read”. This will reset the Unread Mark table that is stored in your ID File. Once this is done, you should be able to do a quick test - Mark a document Unread - does the Folder count update correctly? If not, run Maintenance on the database and test again.
