Has anyone seen before (and have a fix) for users losing their inbox column titles in the 8.5.1 client? All of the messages are still in the inbox, all columns are still there, but the column titles (where you click to sort) are all missing. Rebooting doesn’t help. Odd thing is if you open these user’s mail files from a different computer (other than their own), it displays properly. Even using their ID file. So I would assume the problem lies in their local Data directory. Already tried deleting cache.ndk, no luck there either. Any input would be appreciated. Take care.

Subject: Missing inbox column headers - Solution
This happens when you expand the columns in the inbox so far that Notes invokes a “narrow window” code, which is nasty. If you reduce the margin size for your left side folders navigator, you should be able to see the columns again.

Subject: This is the real answer…
This person’s response was what I needed to understand what was going on.
This seems to be caused by two things. Either the user resizes a column, most likely the subject column, to a point where it triggers this mode. Or, the user is using Lotus Notes 8.5 in a window smaller then the minimum resolution requirement for Lotus Notes 8.5, which is 1024x768 if I recall correctly.
In the first instance, the fix is very simple and far less destructive then renaming / deleting the user’s bookmark.nsf file or their desktop8.ndk file.
While in the affected view, from the menu bar at the top, click on View >>–> Customize this view…
In the dialoge box that is now open, click on the Defaults button, answer yes to the confirmation, then click on OK. This should resolve any accidental column resize issues.
If the issue is that the user is using the Notes client in a Window that is too small or they are running their display at a resolution that is too low. Inform the user why they can not do this or at least what it is doing as a result. I have found it is always better to run an LCD screem at it max / suggested resolution and then use the Windows options for larger icons and / or text for my users that need larger text.
Hope that helps someone out there… and I wanted to thank the previous poster for telling us all what this was. It was maddening to me as to how my users kept doing this to themselves somehow and I could not find a proper answer / solution.
Subject: Column Headings Mising
I tried the Bookmark.nsf Rename as suggested, but that did not fix my problem. My next try was to Edit Notes.ini and remove all lines with exception first 4 lines. Saved the File.
User logged in and as it was the first time logging in, the Column Headings were back in place where they belonged.
Problem was back after an hour, the Problem was that the User was using very low resolution Display of 1024 x 768 or lower on a 22" Wide Screen and everything was stretched. Once the Resolution was optimized to a higher Pixels, the Column Headings were back.
Subject: Column Heading Missing for another User
Column Headings in Lotus Notes were missing for another user in my company. thinking that this was the same work around and could be related to screen resolution.
But this time the Screen Res. did was not the issue and the problem was fixed by renaming the bookmark.nsf file in the Notes\Data Directory.
Problem solved and used was all set.
