Import tabular text in a view: field size=column size!

I can’t believe my eyes :

I produced a Tabular text file from Excel 2000.

I import this file through a view with 6 colums sized from 1 to 6 with content Field1 to Field6.

And I get 6 fields :

Field1 = 1st car.

Field2 = 2nd & 3rd car.

Field3 = 4th to 6th car?

I can probably sell this app., but what about just having a clean import ?

Notes is 6.0.1CF1.

Any comment on this one ?

I just tried doing this in Notes 7 client and it gave the same result. The width of the columns in the view determines what text goes in each field, instead of the tab delimeter in the text!!!

A search in the support database shows that in 6.5 it was not going to be fixed in the codestream, I assume they also aren’t fixing it in the 7 codestream. A bit slack!!!

I couldn’t save as wk4 from Excel 2007, Microsoft have removed a bunch of file types from the save as. So had to get an older version of Office (97) to be able to save as WK4 to be able to import properly.

Ditto!

I wish IBM would keep up with MS. Office 2007 no longer supports wks so we must now relay on the painful import of tan deliminted files. In R7 it does not work.

But you don’t really expect Notes and Domino 6.0.1 to keep up with Office 2007, do you?

In fact I rather hope that no-one "keeps up2 with that crippled file format, that doesn’t even comply to Microsoft’s own standardization approach, so they will finally start to support open industry standards.

Of course I’m aware, that this statement doesn’t help you a bit with your problem at hands …
