Images not showing in HTML mail

We have some users (on a Domino 6 server) who can’t see some of the images in their incoming mail, and at least one (me) who can, just fine. The images that aren’t showing in the other users’ mail are clearly supposed to be URL references, e.g:

I’ve scanned this forum for hopeful looking threads but not found any addressing this problem.

I see previous messages indicating that upgrades from a D4.x server may contribute to HTML mail image problems, but ours was a new D6 install. I also see messages suggesting adjustments to the user’s Person Document “format preference for incoming mail” – but these settings are identical for all users, whether or not their HTML mail images are working.

This may or may not be part of the issue: at least a couple of these users encounter “Cannot open the web navigator database” errors when they try to undertake certain activities involving browser and Notes – for example, copying and pasting text from a browser to a Notes memo. (We use IE as our browser, and users’ location documents are configured for that.)

When I look at these users’ local setups, the Personal Web Navigator database is indeed not present (it is on mine). Creating one on their system does not stop the error, however.

Any suggestions eagerly welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Check their location docuents to see if they have settings for a Proxy Server under the Basics tab. We run a proxy server and no matter how you configure the settings in the location doc, images show up in placeholders with red x’s in the top right corner.Clear any proxy settings in the location doc and authenticate with the proxy through a browser session prior to opening any mail with images contained therein.

Solution for our case (with thanks and low bow to Brian Long): the problem was that Lotus hadn’t installed Personal Web Navigators for these users. We’re not sure why, but we’re guessing maybe because the Setup Settings document had the browser set to Internet Explorer.

We temporarily set Notes as the browser in the users’ Location documents and opened a web page to prompt the creation of the Personal Web Navigator database. Then restored the Location settings, opened some mail with linked images and hey presto.

We have a new 6 domino load but have problems w/broken graphics & links. I tried suggestion here & works for some in PerWeb Navigator view but not from Notes client. Same mailbox w/Outlook client does not have this problem.

Further to this issue: the View | Show | Pass-Thru HTML option is greyed out on the PCs of those who can’t see their e-mail messages. I’m beginning to suspect this is key. The help says this is to “Show or hide HTML content that renders when viewed on the Internet” and it says I should be able to select it when viewing documents in Edit mode. On my system, I can select Show | Pass-Thru HTML whether or not I’m in Edit mode, but on others’ systems I can’t select it at all.
