I'm "not authorized to perform that operation"

Hi,

I’ve managed to get myself into a bit pickle, and I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can help me.

I’ll try my best to make a long story short. Here’s what I did. I have been using the Notes client to send and receive email from my ISP. Recently, we got our Domino server up, so I tried to convert my client to talk to Domino. I also wanted to retain access to my previous ISP email. So…

I copied my new Notes ID file into my Notes data directory. This ID file is different than the one I used to access my ISP. I then invoked the File/Preferences/Client Reconfiguration Wizard. That seemed to go fine. I then opened up my Location DB and made adjustments to various settings to send/receive mail through Domino. I then invoked the File/Security/Switch ID command.

After doing the above, I was able toopen my Domino mail database via the Ctrl+O command. I was “fat, dumb and happy” - my apologies to all the fat,dumb and happy people out there ;-).

Anyway, I restarted the Notes client and then pressed the Mail tab / bookmark. I can see on the status bar that it speaks to our Domino server, but then it gives me the error message “You are not authorized to perform this operation.” Aside from feeling small, I also felt it was odd that when I run a program Windows program I wrote to access Notes mail via the C++ Notes API, I get the exact same error message coming back from the LnNotesSession::GetMailDatabase() - Humpf!

It seems as though my Notes client is only partially configured to access mail on my Domino server.

Any thoughts/ideas out there?

It sounds like it is using an ID that does not have access to your mailfile on the server. What does the server log say? Does it show your other ID? My first bet is that your Location document is at fault. I suggest creating one location doc for Notes, another for your ISP. Each Loc doc should specify which ID to use and which mailfile to use. That way, all you have to do is switch locations and everything else will match. I do that at home to switch between ISP accounts.
