Illegal access to addtional address book?

If any user wants to write a mail and writes in the “To”-field a string e.g “james” then presses the F9-key to get the mail-address of “james” , “james” is changed to related mail address e.g. “james.x@xyz.com”. So far so good!

The problem is: “james” is registered only in an additional address book “namesxyz.nsf”. The user has no access rights to this address book!! If the user attempts to select this address book explicite from the address book list, he gets message “You are not authorized access to this database” (or something like that).

The additional address book is located in the Domino Data Directory at our mail-server.

The Notes.ini entry : NAMES=names.nsf, namesxyz.nsf

Mail-Server OS: W2K Pro; Domino: 5.0.11

Mail-Databases: R5 or R6 templates

Who can help??

Thank you in advance

Subject: illegal access to addtional address book ??

The user’s access probably doesn’t come into it since you have described old style cascading address books. This is a directory service provdied by the server, so it is the server’s access that is important. (By the way this is the ‘old school’ way of setting this up - you should really be using Directory assistance now…)

What is the user’s EXACT access to the secondary address book. Do they have ‘No Access’ but with ‘Read public documents’ ticked , for example.

Yes, please refer to the “Domino Directory FAQ” (google it) to find DA references if you are unsure what to do.
