In a mixed environment with a 8.5 client and a 8.0.2 mail server but with a 8.5 server with ID Vault in the same domain. When is the local ID file caught by the ID Vault server? The Location document has Mail/Home server set to the 8.0.2 mail server. How do I get the client to upload it’s ID file? Does the client need to open a database on the ID Vault server? Will the ID File upload immedately or after some time?
We would like to get the ID Vault in to production as soon as possible but wait some time with the upgrade of the mail servers.
Subject: Uploads (and resyncs) will be spread across an eight hour period
About 5 minutes or so after the Notes client has started, it will check to see if the current ID file is vaulted or should be vaulted, and will then randomly choose a time to resync (or upload) over the next eight(*) hours. The client will first attempt to upload/resync with the user’s home server; if that server is pre-8.5, the client will start working its way through the home server’s cluster-mates until it either finds the vault server or finds an 8.5 server that can send it a “referral list” for the vault servers.
The user never needs to directly open a database on the vault server, or on any 8.5 server, for that matter. This gives you the ability to lock dowh the vault server more thoroughtly. Additionally, if the user has shut down Notes repeatedly before the designated resync time, the client will grow impatient and resync about 5 minutes after startup.
Hope that helps,
dave
(*) That value can be customized via the IDVAULT_RESYNC_INTERVAL notes.ini parameter; the default setting is 480 minutes.
What you are saying Dave is that the users home server must be 8.5 or one server in cluster with the users home server must be 8.5 for the ID vault functionality to work. Have I intepreted you correct?
