ID File Rename

I would like to change the name of the ID file as well as user’s mail file. Is there a way to do all this automatically? Renaming a user doesn’t seem to change these 2.

Just by thinking about it I’d say that I would need to rename entries in the notes.ini, rename id file, rename mail file and change mail file entry in the person document. The only thing I can’t do easily remotely is to change the mail file entry in the location document(s) of the user’s address book if users store their PAB on their local drive.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Appreciate your help.

Cheers

Ryan

Suggestions? Don’t worry about it. (Speaking from experience)

‘Rename User’, as you’ve found, renames the user’s name; and is pretty thorough at 6.5.x.

Everything else you’ve mentioned is pretty much a manual process.

As you’ve noted you’d have to change the entries in the person doc and the PAB to change the physical name of the mail file, but you’d also pretty much have to bounce the server to remove the lock on the mail file to change it.

As you noted, you’d have to hit all the Location docs in the PAB (whether or not the user has a local mail file) and you’d have to hit the Notes.INI, (setting both the user.id filename as well as the mail file name) and bounce the client as well.

So the process is pretty intensive, and all the steps have to be accomplished at pretty much the same time; or the user is going to be without mail for a period of time.

Sorry!
