I cannot change the local database folder

Hi

I have placed a few notes files on another location then the data folder ( like desktop6.ndk, names, nsf, notes.ini, user id file). But in the user preference the datafolder is pointing to the location where I placed the other files. In the notes.ini the directory parameter is also pointing to the other location.

How can I make Lotus Notes point to the datafolder D:\Lotus\Notes\Data?

I already tried changing the folder path in the user preference and changing the parameter in the notes.ini. But after reopening the client it still point to the new location.

The user preference setting and the INI file parameter are one and the same. Did you shut down the client and edit the INI file and then restart?

If the client is ignoring the change you’ve made to the INI file, then maybe it’s using a different one. Does the Windoze shortcut which launches the client specify a “Start in” directory other than the data directory?

or does the shortcut point to a different notes.ini with the = parameter ?eg: “C:\Program Files\Lotus\notes\notes.exe” “=some other directory\notes.ini”

…it’s no longer supported in R6 AFAIK; the target property of the Windoze shortcut isn’t editable any more. Now, if you delete that one and create your own, will that work, or will it use the registry entry?

Hi

Does Lotus Notes first look in the ini file to find out where the datafolder is? Or is there another place that is leading? If I close the client and change the directory parameter in the ini file to another location why does Lotus Notes not use that new directory path?

Yes. So the question remains whether the INI file you’re editing is the one that the client is using.

Hi

The ini file i am editing must be the ini file the client is using because when I change the directory parameter to D:\Lotus\Notes\Data and save the ini file, the same parameter is changed to K:\Notes after the client is started.

The fact that notes.ini changes back to what it was before suggests to me that there is some kind of policy in effect here. Does your server admins have a policy for Notes client installs, so that some process in Windows changes the notes.ini when Notes starts?

Hi

I am the notes admin. Where can I check if there is such a policy for notes clients installs?

p.s. apologies for my reposting. I thouht that it would be out of focus for other users to react.

Actually, my first thought was Windows group policies, or possibly some kind of “special” install of the Notes client.

I’m not really up to date on Domino policies.

Hi

I don’t have a notes.ini parameter in the shortcut. The path to the ini is set in the registry.

Hi

Yes I first shut down the client, and then changed the ini file. But still it points to the other location.

The Start in shows the same folder as the data directory

Here is the shortcut’s property

Target: C:\Lotus\Notes\notes.exe

Start in: C:\Lotus\Notes

The path to the notes.ini ( which is in k:\Notes\notes.ini) is set in the registry. I even deleted the notes.ini file from the C:\Lotus\Notes folder. But still the datafolder is pointing to K:\Notes.

How can I change this?
