It was recommended to us by lotus support to disable hyperthreading on the domino servers. Can anyone explain what hyperthreading is and how it can boost performance on the server running notes?
We have 2 servers : one running 4 xeon 1.5 gig processors and another with two 1.4 gig processors.
Some of Intel processor have “hyperthreading”. It means that som e task in the processor the can be run in parallel. This should boost performance in theory, but in real life it is sometimes slower than a ordinairy CPU. In Windows task manager on a HT abled CPU it will show up as 2 CPU.
…we had/have an incident with IBM regarding hyperthreading slowing down our Domino-server.If we had four processors and HT enabled, we´d got a much slower machine than running on two processors without HT enabled.
We even had a better result with two processors than on four,
and that without HT enabled
But that was an HTTP-server.
We have not seen that kind of behaviour on plain Domino.
