Hyperlink to Office Docs Behavior Question

This will sound obvious, but I am also curious about this. When I click on a hyperlink (Link Hotspot) to an Excel filein a mail memo, the results are that the spreadsheet is displayed in an Excel ‘snap-in’ within the Internet Explorer Browser. This is fine for small edits, or for just reading.

Is there a way to force Excel to open - rather than the browser. I realize that the nature of links should be handled by the browser, but I thout I would ask.

Thanks!

Doug

These instructions are for my computer running windows 2000 but it’s probably similar on XP.

  1. Go into Control Panel->Folder Options

  2. Click the File Types tab

  3. Scroll down to “XLS”

  4. Click the Advanced button

  5. Check “confirm open after download”

This will stop it automatically opening in IE and allow you to save it to the hard drive and then you can open it.
