How would one go about implementing a hub cluster where one of the clustermates is a dedicated admin server? We are going to build a new hub server and want to utilize it as the admin server for the domain.
If it is clustered and goes down, will the clustermate take over the admin tasks until the designated admin server comes back online?
Very curious and not clear on how this would work.
I have been thinking about this and am coming to the conclusion that while the hub servers can be clustered and share the replication workload the admin tasks are going to be the sole territory of the server designated as the admin server. I’m saying this because of the fact that domino directory is going to have the admin server specified in the advanced ACL settings and that is not dynamic.
It really isn’t a big issue. If the one server goes down we’ll be without an admin server while we recover. That’s the same way things would be if it was a stand-alone admin server in a non-clustered environment.
Domino Clustering does not have the capability of automatically updating the administration server of any particular database when the administration server of that database goes “out of service”. This also hold true for the Administration Server of the Domino directory and it’s importance to the Administration Process. If the server defined as the Administration Server of the Domino Directory goes “out of service” then any Admin Process requests intended to execute against the directory will wait until the server is brought back up.
Therefore there are no special configuration options for the Hub cluster to which you refer.
There exists an SPR/Enhancement Request similar to your question (KWON66JSW6) as it related to the Administration Process, Sorry, but there are currently no plans in place to implement a solution.
