HTML/MIME emails slow to open

Hi, recently I noticed that my client opens up MIME emails with a delay of about 15 seconds.

The email header will load up pretty fast just like all other emails but after that it hangs my client for about 15 seconds and in my Task Manager, I saw the notes2w.exe consuming up to 79% of my CPU power, until the email body finally loads up. What is wrong and why it hangs for 15 seconds each time I open a MIME email? The email I tested contains only plain text without graphics or elements that try to load something from the Internet, so there should not be any issue with Internet connection, proxy settings and such. Anyone can help me to resolve this? Thanks

Subject: Have you installed IE8?

I believe this problem is being caused by IE8.

You can turn off that option in the preferences regarding MIME emails I think, tell it to use built in browser.

Subject: Ah…thanks

Yes, I recently upgraded my browser from IE7 to IE8. Although IE is not the main browser I use (Firefox is my main) but due to some websites may only render correctly in IE and IE7 sucks in performance, so I upgraded to IE8 without realizing it will have an impact on my LN. Sigh… now the workaround seems to be OK for me. Thanks a zillion. Shall wait till IBM resolve this permanently.

I am not finding this setting easily. Can you be more specific as to it’s location?

Subject: Setting to disable MIME Lockup

I had this issue aswell, I installed IE8 and it made notes even more painfull to use than it already is.

Not fully tested but it seems to work on 8.0.2 & 8.5.

Goto File → Preferences → Basic Notes Client Configuration.

Find the entry “Disable embedded browser for MIME Mail” (probably in the middle of the “Additional Options” Scroll Box), if you tick this and click OK you will notice right away the improvement.

With Sametime saved chats, without the tick took 40+ seconds to load with 50% CPU. With the tick less than 2 seconds with 1% CPU.

With Mail, Without the tick it took anywhere between 1 and 4 minutes with 50% / 90%. With the tick less than 5 seconds and 5% CPU.
