HTML in the Notes Client

It may be a simple thing but am trying this since yesterday without luck.

Am adding HTML content in my Notes mail and sending to my Yahoo a/c expecting it to show the contents in the body.

This is what am doing. I have typed this in my Notes email body and selected passthru HTML

Goes here

This is my first HTML mail in Notes

My locations document is set to MIME for Internet messages and my user preferences are set to HTML only for Internet messages. Infact i have tried both HTML only and HTML and Plain text. But it doesn’t seem to work. I get the actual HTML tags in my Yahoo. where am i going wrong? or am i doing fundementally wrong somewhere?? Pls let me know… Thanks for pointing my ignorance.

MIME is not passthru HTML. Just type what you want to send, formatted the way you want to see it, and send it. The formatted text will be converted to MIME. If you want to send more complex HTML, then you’ll need to use code (an agent or action) to create the MIME entity.

Thanks Stan. I have got it right and realised my mistake. Just got carried away by own thinking.

I tried doing all sort of formattings in my Notes mail and saw few didn’t turn up good in Yahoo. That i know cos lots of thread have already disussed on that… But i’ll continue to do my research after a while.

And this is my personal thanks as a member of the Notes/Domino community and really appreciate what are you doing to the members of this forum. I also have been reading your blogs for quite some time and deeply appreciate some of your thoughts. May be this is not the right place to discuss all that. So i stop here and seeeya at Stan’s space.

Cheers

Thanks.

You’re right, not everything translates cleanly from Notes CD to MIME. Or at least not as cleanly as we’s often like it to. Creating a MIME message is the only way to go if you are certain that your audience is going to be on HTML-based mail. Of course, that means that if your recipients are using Notes, they’ll be the ones getting the less-than-perfect version. If your audience is mixed, it’s probably best to “dumb it down” a bit. If the mail is all external (customer newsletters, for instance), then rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty with the NotesMIMExxx classes is your only real choice.

Is this cos of the fact that Notes tries to convert everything once again to Notes CD format before it displays in the Notes client? And some of the HTML equivalents simply do not exist in the Notes rich text side ( for instance i tried sending a HTML mail from Gmail a/c to Notes with some portions highlighted). I initially thought that the hightlighting would display rightly in the Notes client.

But it didn’t. And similiarly if i highlight particular text when sending a Notes mail to Gmail the highlighted text didn’t show up in Gmail.

So to summarise, if you can’t see a particular Notes formatting in Web it means you can’t see that in Notes either. I hope i am right. Your take Stan?

That’s about right, yes. Some things just don’t translate well, so if you have to address multiple clients, it’s best to dumb it down a bit.
