Notes does not display HTML. Period. When a pure HTML page needs to be displayed, Notes will either use its internal version of Internet Explorer, or it will open a separate web browser application (depending on your settings). To display content that is only partially HTML (such as the body of HTML mail, or inline passthru elements with “render” selected), Notes needs to convert the HTML into its own CD (Rich Text) format. Not everything translates properly between HTML+CSS and Notes CD. That is particularly true of background images in tables. If the image was inline, it would have been downloaded and displayed.
I noticed this problem when we upgraded to R6.The funny thing is if you downgrade the mail file using a R5 template your html will show up without a problem.
This tells me it is a template(form)issue.
So far I have not had a business need for HTLM emails, so I have not brought this issue to Lotus.
No, it doesn’t tell you that at all. The client code is different, the server code is different, and the template is different. Two of those three can have an affect on the method used to convert HTML/MIME to Notes CD – and neither of them is the mail template.
So has anyone notified Lotus /IBM about this issue? Is there a solution? Next version or release maybe?This is a big player in my company and right now only our IT dept has R6 clients installed.
We won’t move rest of the company from R5 until this is resolved.

I have been developing HTML emails for Lotus notes for about 6 months now and I have to agree with Stan!
Tables will not align, background images do not work, style sheets are obliterated and the only support issues I can find say “Our engineers are aware of the problems and looking into a fix”
There appear to be no work arounds other than to say “if you are experiencing problems go here…”
My latest problem has been tables over lapping each other - !$&*!>"!

Does anyone know of a way of exporting a design from Lotus notes RTF, into HTML so that it will work?
Sure, but it requires a third party product. Our Midas Rich Text LSX will export Notes RTF into HTML cleanly and with lots of control over how you want to handle images, links and attachments, for example. It will also generate MIME cleanly for proper HTML e-mails without the problems you mention (or at least, if I understand the problems you mention correctly. I don’t know for sure whether you mean inbound to Notes or ourbound from Notes in this case). Give it a try. I think you’ll be surprised at how easy working with rich text, HTML and MIME can be.
I would very much like to be able to view html rich emails - not just for a legitimate business sense but to prove to my colleague that Notes can hadle it! It is supposed to be able to afterall. If anyone from IBM/Lotus does read this forum, please get in touch or post an answer, please!
I’ve setup my personal POP3 account within my Notes client and when I replicate with the external pop3 sever, html rich emails view perfeclty. So, things only go pear shaped when a Domino mail server is in the loop, in my case v6.5.4.
I’ve been through all the messaging settings, person docs (prefers mime, rtf, keep in senders format which would seem the most obvious), Admin help, various forums etc etc but nothing I try makes any difference to receiving html mail via the server…
