Is there a way to change the settings of Lotus notes to display email newsletters that utilize html, css and graphics? I am fairly new to Lotus Notes, but I thought that all email clients could display stuff like that.

There is a setting in your person document of your address book regarding your incomming mail format. For R6, keep in senders format should allow it to display in HTML. There may be other mail gateway related things… I’m not an administrator.
