Howto install Notes 8.5.1 on Windows2008/x64/XenApp5

As IBM points out in system requirements, Notes 8.5.1 should support XenApp5 running on Windows Server 2008/x64.

This is fine to know, but seems to be only half of the truth.

Is there any officially documentation other than TechNote 1390167 about how to get it run in detail?

I spent now a week to get out all the edges and it is still very unstable. For example the setup seems still not able to recognize the terminal environment and puts notes.ini files cluttering around at the wrong places. NSDs show that one proccess was expected for different user’s data directories at one time (?). Very strange.

Maybe I just look at the wrong places for documentation or it’s better to stop exploration and to open a PMR about the topic.

Any thoughts?

Peter

Subject: I know a couple of customers have been able to work in this environment.

Perhaps you should open the PMR so we can get to the bottom of the issues you are seeing.

Subject: Who was successful with Citrix?

Jeff, it would be nice to have a contact to a customer who runs this configuration successfully.

I am still struggling to get a stable system running and in the meantime I’m in doubt about it at all.

Subject: documentation, please

Jeff, as you seem to be related to LNIST (Lotus Notes Install and Setup Team), it should be no effort for you to point me to the right setup documentation of Notes 8.5.1 in a Citrix XenApp environment. This should take some unnecessary expense out of my task…

Thank you very much for your input!

Subject: Just to get a level set…

did you review the documentation in the 8.5.1 Admin Guide?

Subject: Found the point!

Jeff, thank you for your input.

The url points me to nowhere, but at least I found the page in the admin guide: “Configuring custom data directories for multi-user install or upgrade on Windows or Citrix”

Here are the new setup parameters descriped in detail.

There is an (not an official IBM source!) presentation flowing around which claims, that there is a new parameter called “CITRIX64=1”:

http://www.admincamp.de/AdminCamp/Track4Session1

After I changed that just to CITRIX=1, the multi-user environment will be set as expected and the stability issues seems to be gone (at least since yesterday…).

Can you confirm that there did not exist a parameter “CITRIX64”?

Thank you again for your input.

Peter

Subject: Welcome.

Not sure why the URL i linked doesn’t work for you. I tested it both at work and at home. Oh well you found the answer I guess that is all that matters.

Early in the 8.5.1 dev cycle there was a CITRIX64=1 property but we simplified that to just CITRIX=1 by the time 8.5.1. went gold.

Subject: Thank you for clarification

Jeff, I will inform the author of the Citrix presentation about this change in the release code.

If you use CITRIX64=1 (as me), nothing will work as expected and you won’t get any error message.
