How to show prompt/notification for a database that has been closed…
I have a client who’s custom database notifies them of past due event they have entered, but currently this notification only runs when the database is open on their client.
They want the notification to be more like their notes email/calendar where, as long as Notes Client itself is open, the database will notify them of meetings, etc. - even if their email/calendar is not open.
This is new territory for me, but I would assume its possible. I’ve searched around all morning but have found little (if nothing) on the subject. In an effort to “broaden my horizons” and not just force the user to receive an email alert, Id like to learn how to do the prompt even when closed option. Many thinks…

Have done something similar using alerts, not the easiest to code but it did work. You can create an alert / reminder in the user’s mail file that would show the alert popup allowing you to control what is displayed in the alert.
I don’t have the code handy but I do know it is technically possible.

Great, that is encouraging! Thanks :o)
Example code would be extremely helpfull as Ive pursued all other routes on my own and came up empty handed. Even tried to disect the notes calendar dB, but man its buried in there!

Take a look at the $alarms folder in the mail file. Create a new appointment manually, set an alarm and you will it gets put into this folder. I believe notes takes care of the rest.
You can automate this process (via script) by creating a new appointment in the user’s mail file and make sure the notfiy me flag is set. I believe by setting the field Alarms = “1” and using the doc.putinfolder(“$Alarms”) method you can make this happen.
If I can dig up the code, I’ll post it later when I have access to it.
