Some answers:

From the Notes help:

Selection of this option allows invoking Notes when you double-click a vCard file (vCard files are indicated by a .VCF extension). If Notes is not running, the double-click will start Notes and open to the Contacts view of the Personal Address Book. If Notes is running, the double-click opens the Personal Address Book or switches to its window tab if it’s already open. Once in the Personal Address Book, the Contacts in vCard File dialog box opens with the specified file displayed, so you can add contacts from the file to your address book. For a detailed description of vCard files and importing and exporting contacts, see Importing and exporting contacts as vCards.

Note This option is not available on the Macintosh.

To enable this option, follow these steps:

  1. From the menu, choose File - Preferences - User Preferences.

  2. Under Additional Options, select “Invoke Notes on vCard Files.”

  3. Click OK.

vCals are used “internally”. That means if you get an calendar entry (meeting, etc.) from an internet mailing system vCal will be used. There is no possibility to have a file (like vCard) and double click on it to get the information into your Notes calendar.

You even can check this by sending a meeting request from Notes to your private internet mail address.

Cheers
