Hi,A notes document may locate on save server or different server (replica), how can we prohibit the two users to edit the same document at the same time if they open it at the same time?
It seems that R8 has this feature, anybody knows how to setup it? Thanks a lot,
Subject: Document Locking
On the Basics tab of the Database’s document properties select “Allow document locking”.
Subject: Are there any other impact if I select that option?
Thanks for the help,Is this working on the same document located on different servers which is replicated each other? or only working on the same server?
Plus, this option is not selected by default, there must be some other impact if I select this option, are there any?
Thanks again,
Subject: Document locking
You need to specify an Administration server, and basically all your users will be updating the documents on the Administration server first. That’s how the docments are “locked”. So everyone must always have access to the Administration server, if the Administration server goes down everyone will get cryptic error messages, and this option will increase the amount of replication that occur, as well as increase the server load on the Administration server.
Subject: Lotus Notes Document Locking
“But let us assume that there are replica copies on multiple servers, etiher multiple single servers or in a clustered environment. In that case, when you try to edit a document, the server makes a call to the administrative server to make sure that this document is not locked. If it is locked, you are given an appropriate error message. If it is not locked, then you are given the lock. For this reason, it is critical to the smooth functioning of this feature that the servers can all communicate with the administrative server easily. If they cannot, or if that communication is slow, then your users will experience a host of problems, from incomplete error messages to an inability to edit/save the document.”
