How to open old nsf file with Lotus Notes 8?

I have the following problem: the IT department of my former employer made a back up of all my old lotus notes mails. Now, I have this nsf file and downloaded the trial version of Lotus Notes 8 to access my old emails. Unfortuntaley I dont even manage to import this file and thus I cant access to read my old emails.

Could anybody please give me a detailed description how to solve this problem? As it is obvious that I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to Lotus Notes, I would appreciate if you are very specific in your explanation.

Subject: Ask this folks in the last company for help

Sorry, there is too many folks out there stealing data from their last companies, that I could see me suggesting anything else.

Depending on what exactly got wrong, the data could be encrypted, too, and there might even be no way to open it without help of theses folks, anyhow.

Subject: ID file ?

Make sure you use the same ID file that was used at your company.

Subject: File → Database → Open

If you get an error about encryption, then you will need the ID for that user.
