How to install ND 6.51 on Linux, a quick HOWTO

Install the latest wine from www.winehq.com (or emerge wine, apt-get wine or whatever).Install Notes 6.51 under Windows.

Copy the the Notes directory to ~/.wine/fake_windows/program files.

Copy mfc42.dll and msvcp60.dll from Windows to ~/.wine/fake_windows/windows/system

type

wine “c:\program files\lotus\notes\nlnotes.exe”

and enjoy

In Designer you also can edit and compile Java Agents now, i couldn’t do that with R5 on wine.

Subject: Lotus Notes 6.5.3 stopped working!

I had Lotus Notes 6.5.3 working just fine under wine-20041201-1fc3winehq for more than half a year now. I had it installed as per the comments posted here earlier. The reason for me not to run any later wine version was due to bug 2660.

Today when I logged into my notebook it just would no more work and I get the following:

I can’t figure out what’s wrong. I rebooted multiple times, tried reinstalling wine-20041201-1fc3winehq, tried copying Lotus Notes 6.5.3 again from my Windows machine. I even tried Lotus Notes 6.5.4 as well as the latest wine-20050524-1fc3winehq with the same result. It just won’t run anymore and I get all the same WineDbg stuff.

Has anybody seen the same happening? What could be causing this? Why would it all of a sudden no more work like that just over-night?

OK, I solved the mystery (or misery whatever you wana call it). It was caused by an automatic up2date of one of the following packages:

yum-2.2.1-0.fc3

tcpdump-3.8.2-9.FC3

selinux-policy-targeted-sources-1.17.30-3.2

mikmod-devel-3.1.6-31.FC3

libpcap-0.8.3-9.FC3

gamin-devel-0.1.1-1.FC3

arpwatch-2.1a13-9.FC3

gaim-1.3.1-0.fc3

gamin-0.1.1-1.FC3

selinux-policy-targeted-1.17.30-3.2

mikmod-3.1.6-31.FC3

I removed (e.g. rpm -e --nodeps) them all and installed the prior versions. After rebooting notes worked just fine again. I am still back at wine-20041201-1fc3winehq due to bug 2660, but upgraded to using Lotus Notes 6.5.4 with Admin and Designer. I then upgraded above listed packages one by one, rebooted after each one and tried notes. After having updated them all and rebooted multiple times all is still working perfectly. Looks like something got screwed during that automatic up2date stuff. I suspect it had to do with selinux.

mfc42.dll and msvcp60.dll

into the system32-folder.

The Windows-installation ist Windows2000 and I marked in winecfg the notes-entry as a Windows2000-application

I can post the errors if needed. Did you make any changes to your wine.conf? You’ll have to forgive me, i’m fairly new to linux. Right now this is the only thing holding me back from deleting my windows partition.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Keep getting a Visual C++ runtime error, R6016, “not enough space for thread data”.

Pretty sure it has to do with .DLL’s, but haven’t been able to locate them yet.

ok, like a ninny, I didn’t properly install Wine.

did a

rpm -qa | grep wine

discovered it was an older version from 2003 that comes with Suse 9.

Now, with 20040213, I copied an existing installation (not a new installation), and now get a err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\Program Files\lotus\notes\nlnotes.exe" failed, status c0000142 error when running.

Anyone gotten an existing installation of Notes 6.5.1 running, or have a clue on this one?

I followed the instructions from Peter Leugner, and got a bunch of errors. I then followed the first half of the additional instructions by Oliver Regelmann at vowe dot net :: Notes 6.5.1 now runs on Linux and Wine. I copied over mfc42u.dll and msvcrt.dll as well. I then got the same error as you, which I fixed by following the second half of Oliver Regelmann’s instructions - editing my wine config file:

; Windows version to imitate (win95,win98,winme,nt351,nt40,win2k,winxp,win2k3,win20,win30,win31)

“Windows” = “win98”

to

“Windows”=“winxp”

The error message you received appears to be described here, and the fix is editing the config file as noted above:

Install the latest wine from www.winehq.com.I am actually running Notes 7 Beta 2

Install Notes 6.51 or 7 under Windows into a c:\lotus\notes directory.

Install wine then copy the the c:\lotus\notes directory to ~/.wine/drive_c\lotus\notes

Copy mfc42.dll and msvcp60.dll from Windows to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system

type

wine “c:\lotus\notes\notes.exe”

The only thing i cannot get to work is the built in sametime feature. If anyone has this working i would like to know what dll’s need to be installed.

These instructions worked great on SuSE 9.1.

The only issues I had were to edit the Domino server notes.ini to disable some LAN ports ie. it was trying to use Netbios and to also disable these ports in the client.

I tried the above procedure, and I have the following problem: Notes starts up fine, I get the usual login dialog, but when I have entered my password and notes continues to load, I get a red box complaining about a Lookup Handle: null handle, and that was it. I have been playing around with some additional dlls, and wine configuration settings, but that didn’t help Also, I am using Notes 6.53 as I am still searching for a 6.51 download.I would be really grateful for any help or pointers, and I’ll gladly provide the error logs or anything that might be of assistance for someone who knows what the problem might be.

I’m at this point too. Notes Client 6.5 on RedHat 9.I did a clean install of ND6.5 (September 26, 2003) onto a FAT partition (to be visible to RH9 (no FAT32 visibility), made sure the browser was Notes and Sametime was manual.

Booted to RH9, copied the program tree under fake_windows\program files\lotus\notes etc.

This loads, accepts the user password, then BIG RED BOX.

Question: Does anyone have RH9 AND Fedora 1 (or 2) to test whether this is due to that difference? The only reported working instance seems to be Fedora with wine-FC. And possibly its only 6.51.

There seems to be no output disclosing exactly which file is not found so determining the exact error is difficult.

So near and yet so far… and the ‘works for me’ stories just make me jealous!

This black magic stuff is difficult… should I sacrifice a goat instead of a chicken?
