I’ve tried the 8.5 beta, but (see http://www.mickmoignard.com/MickMoignard/mickmoignard.nsf/dx/10072008105349MMODM8.htm) I’ve not been able to stick with it as my sole Notes client pack.
I’d like to re-install 85b1 alongside my production 801 client, but the 85b1 install insists on using the directories where the 801 client is. Is there any way of doing a separate install of 85b1? like we used to be able to do with older versions?
Subject: I have the same scenario
I did the follow steps to install 8.5 and keep the 8.0.1.
- Duplicated te Lotus Install folder
c:\notes
c:\notes8.0.1 (copy of c:\notes)
- Performed notes 8.5 install
It upgrade the content of current c:\notes
- updating R8.0.1 notes.ini
Edit c:\notes8.0.1\notes.ini
Change all entries = c:\notes\ to c:\notes8.0.1\
Save and close
Create a copy of your notes8.5 shortcut
Rename it to Notes 8.0.1
Change its properties like following:
Target: c:\Notes8.0.1\nlnotes.exe “=d:\notes801\notes.ini”
Start In: c:\Notes8.0.1
Now I’m able to open both clients simultaneously.
P.S.: I recommend to always launch the notes8.5 first
In your case, is very recommended to reinstall notes8.0.1 before start the above procedure.
I hope it helps.

Subject: I stopped dual client installs …
because the hassle was not worth it. Just get VMWare Server (http://www.vmware.com/download/server/) and install it on your laptop. Then put 8.5 its own VM and play with it there. Saves so much time and hassle.
