How to handle the Forwarding of Emails to users at parent company?

We have a few hundred accounts in our Domino Directory for employees at our parent company so they can use work flow applications on our server. They don’t use Notes for email. They use a different system at the parent org. So we setup a forwarding address for these users so they receive email notifications from the workflow apps and from our Notes users. For example the parent domain is acme.com and we are pa.acme.com.

The problem is that spammers will email our server and some spam goes to the employees at the parent org and gets forwarded to their email address. This creates unwanted email traffic for us and them. Plus, we don’t want outside people emailing people at our parent company through our server. Is there an easy way to stop this? I could change the security on their person document but that’s time consuming. We have a couple of domains so we can’t use the option to in the Configuration document | Router\SMTP | Basics | Address lookup | Fullname only option.

We use the DNS blacklist to tag emails so that that tagged emails go in our users junk folder but the parent org doesn’t use the same rules so it’s not a good option for them.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Subject: Fullname option

Even if you have multiple domains you can use the fullname only option in the configuration document. If the spammers are getting you by sending mail to Joe@company.com then you need to enable that option.

If you want email addressed to multiple addresses to get delivered to you then just add the additional addresses to your User Name field in your person document. For example:

Joe Smith/XYZ

Joe Smith

jsmith@pa.xyz.com

info@xyz.com

You may also want to consider using a second address book for your corporate folks and setting up directory assistance. This will make it easier to manage who is who and you may be able to keep the directory up to date with a script.
