How to enable/install iNotes

Hello all,

I have done quite a bit of searching and really haven’t found the exact information I am looking for. I want to run iNotes on an existing Domino Server. I need to know exactly what to do, and what address to give the user(s) who will be accessing their Notes email this way. Everything I’ve read so far relates to R5.x

I know this must be pretty simple, and I apologize if this has been asked and answered before, but I havent been able to find it in this particular forum.

Thanks in adavance for any/all replies!

I dont know where Greg is going… but there is NOTHING to do. If you have a Domino server running… iNotes is a TEMPLATE name - people seem to confuse this. There is nothing to ‘run’ to use iNotes. We have users that have mail files, you assign the iNotes template to the file… they go to the browser… type in the server name, and the location of the mail file… and it prompts them for the password… (password which is in their PERSON document)

if this is not as detailed as you need… email me!

Ruth:

It looked to me that she wanted a quick and dirty “How to” for iNotes. I made a few assumptions, yes, but if she isn’t running the HTTP task, she isn’t getting what I expect iNotes to be - web based mail (simply put). I will agree that there is probably too much in there, but Marcia hasn’t chimed back in to say I was way off or not.

And if it really detailed information that she wants, there is this Redbook:

At least neither of us posted with RTFM.

Thanks.

Haha… ya… or GGT (Go Get Tarining)?

It’s just that she said she had a Domino server already… so it seems they already use it for mail… and yes, the http task needs to be started …and in the ini file… bla bla bla… but I just wanted her to know it’s easier than it sounds… many people ask me how to RUN iNotes… and its not a task that runs… they just dont understand what it really is.

Create a Domino Mail Redirect database (use the iwaredir.ntf). Follow the instructions in the database on how to setup/use it.Make this database the Homepage for the Server.

Launch the Domino HTTP task.

Provide the users with the URL to the Domino server.

Hit the server with a supported browser.

Enter user name/password.

Mail redirector will send the user to the mail server listed in the Person Document.

Oh, and make sure that the users are using the iNotes template.

Hope that is good to get you started.

Subject: assumptions aside…

You are assuming they don’t want to use a different Homepage… by Making this database the Homepage for the Server…and that no one at all will be using Lotus Notes… If they have an intranet… they can just create a link on there to get to their mail.

Wow! Thanks Gregg and Ruth for all the info! I quite enjoyed reading your interchange. I have been super busy today and haven’t had a chance to get back to the forum till now.

I see now that iNotes is not a task. We have 3 Domino Servers - serverA is our admin server. ServerB is our mail and application server. ServerC holds replicas of selected mail and database files (not all dbs, not clustered server). I have a new account rep in Texas who needs to access her Notes email via the web. I want her to access her mail file on ServerC. ServerC has a public IP address and a URL already (www.matrixinfoconsulting.com). We have it set up so that marketing literature and administrative forms can be downloaded from outside of the office. HTTP is already enabled on the server. So from what I can see, all I have to do is change her mail template and give her the password that is in her person document (not the internet password?). The path to the mail files on the server is g:\notes\data\mail\mymail.nsf. So (and I hate to sound dumb here) what would the exact URL be for me to give her?

Again, thanks so much for your help!

If, when you look at her Person Document, there is no hashed password in the “internet password” field, you will have to edit the document and type on in. That is the password that you want to give her.

The URL would be, if I am reading this correctly, http://www.matrixinfoconsulting.com/mail/.nsf

You should be good to go after that. Except for the phone calls.

HTH.
