What is best way of detecting if a notes Form is being created for the first time?
I need to prevent customers changing the status of a form at the point of creation, but allow it when subsequently edited later on.

Just a small note on Notes terminology. End Users create and edit a Document (Really its called a Note) designers create forms that end users use to create their document (Note). I know from the context that you are really talking about a Document not a Form.
But then a Form is a document (Note) as well

lotusScript method is in NotesUIDocument yourUIDoc.isNewDoc and returns either True or False
same in Formula language, there is a formula @IsNewDoc.
