How to Copy names.nsf from domino 5.0.9 (old machine) to domino 6.5.1 (new machine)

Hello,

I have domino 5.0.9 and sametime 3.0 on one machine. and I am planning to install domino 6.5.1 and sametime 6.5 on another new machine. I want to transfer my databases and names.nsf

(people, groups and other information documents ) to this new machine.

Could any one suggest me the proceudure for doing it.

Here are the few steps I have thought of.

Step1. Install the Domino Enterprise server. During Installtion, choose the old cert.id and server.id files ( these files should be copied from old server )

Step2. FTP my databases from old machine to new machine in the data directory.

Step3. Start the domino server

Step4: copy person and special group documents from old names.nsf to new names.nsf

Step5: Intall the sametime server.

Step6: Change the login form in the Domino Configuratioin Data base.

Could any one tell me if there is any other steps required ??

Where can I find information on

1.How to copy server document from old server domino5.0.9 to new server 6.5.1?

2.How to transfer information from names.nsf to new names.nsf ?

Just copy names.nsf to the new HW box, along with all other DBs you need. It will be upgraded to the new design, but all data (including server documents) will remain intact. You could also think of moving notes.ini - in case you have a lot of custom settings to preserve.

Why copy?

Install the new server as aditional server in the domain.

If you discard the first server, just change the

admin server of the domain to the new server.

I believe moving (copying) the old server to the new box is easier and safer. There may be issues with ACLs, readers/authors fields, etc.

Also, clients (if any) may have bookmarks, connetcion docs, etc. to need update.

There may be even hard-coded server names in apps (hard to believe, but this is what I inherited in my current job).

unless they extensively customized their address book, even so, it won’t…
