How to bring computed fields on to a Form field list?

Hi All,

In a database I have about 15000 documents created with respect to a form called ‘MainForm’

In this form I have a text field as F1

Under Form properties I have ‘ticked’ Automatically refresh fields property.

Now I want to get first two characters from F1 field, in two different fields.

Therefore I created two computed fields as C1 and C2 , and had following formulas in them respectively.

@Left(F1;1)

@Middle(F1;1;1)

Upto here it works fine, when I open a document I can see expected values are created in C1 and C2.

But when I see document properties in any of those documents ( right click on a document) I cannot see C1 and C2 fields ??

But when I edit a document and when saved, those C1 and C2 appear in the field list….

My question is since I have about 15,000 documents, is there any easy way ( by way of an agent ) which I could use to bring these C1, C2 to document field list ??

Thanks in Advance

When you open document and look for values they will be availbale in new fields, but they are not yet part of document as document is not edited and saved. thats why you don’t see values from back end.

Simpler solution to your problem can be just create simple agent to be run on selected documents and write following formula in it.

FIELD C1:= @Left(F1;1);

FILED C2:= @Middle(F1;1;1) ;

@all;

Selct documents and run the agent new fields will be stamped with expected values.

Your problem is that these are computed fields and there for will not be added to the document unless it is opened in edit mode and saved. Even though they will be displayed correctly. The previousl responded gave you a formula that will do this so select all the documents in the view and run the agent and go for lunch. Also this will mean all 15000 documents will have to be replicated to any replica copies so be aware of the timing.
