How to 8.5 and 8.0.2 Notes Client install in same PC?

Subject: there is no supported way.

Some things definitely won’t work, if you still want to try, I would go for this:

Install one of the two. Make sure it works, close it, rename the Program directory (and data directory, in case it is not below the program directory).

Install the second one in a again different directory. There might be error messages but usually it works. Make sure that client works, too.

Rename the program directory of the first client to its original name. You will have to do icons to start the various things manually.

Based on this, I had multiple servers and 5 or so clients of different versions installed on the same machine (severl different machines for many years).

Tip: The one more important for your work should be the second one to install (the registry settings will point to the last one).

Have you considered running it in a VM? Sun’s Virtualbox with a spare Windows license or a free Ubuntu 8.04 should work just fine…

Subject: Should work with software virtualisation

Hi,

I’m using software virtualisation for quite some time now. Haven’t had the need yet to use 2 Notes versions in parallel - but it shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Have a look here: [http://www.symantec.com/community/page/86/get-svs-here-now]

I’m still using the old Altiris SVS 2.1 version (Altiris was bought by Symantec some time ago). It’s easy to install and maintain.

You install your software into containers (witch include all files and registry settings). You can easily turn these containers on and off whenever you want - no need to reboot Windows or install/run VMWare or so.

If you really needed to run 2 Notes installations in one XP install, you should give it a try.
