How often does a mail file re-index itself?

We are finding some email files showing that the last time the search has been indexed is over a month ago. How often does a mail file re-index for search purposes?

Should it not re-index nightly? If it doesn’t then invalid search results will come up since new entries will not be in the index.

Is there a setting somewhere that I should set to mail files are reindexed on a timely basis?

Subject: which index?

Are you referring to view indexes, or the full-text index? Normal defaults for a mail file is that the view indexes update almost immediately, and the full-text index updates hourly. But there are opportunities for either an administrator or a user (with sufficient rights) to change or disable the updates.
