HOW: Notes client to Domino over internet

How do I connect Notes to a Domino server over the internet?

When I run the Client Reconfiguration Wizard and enter the name of the domino server server/domain, click next, select TCP/IP, enter server address as www.domain.net, click next I receive an error message that the server is not responding.

Subject: Are you using the Notes client?

If you’re using the Notes client over TCP/IP to connect to a Domino server you need to input the server address in hierarchical format i.e. Server/ou/organization.

Subject: Yes, and the Admin client

Unfortuately, I’m not completely sure what you mean. I’ve seen this form on the server and tried manipulations of this form in the Server Name and Server Address files to no avail.

I am able to connect to the server using the web admin interface and the administrator login.

Also if I do Trace from the client:

Determining path to server edms/dname

Available Ports: TCPIP LAN0

Checking normal priority connection documents only…

Allowing wild card connection documents…

Enabling name service requests and probes…

Checking for edms/dname on TCPIP using address ‘edms’

Unable to connect to edms/dname on TCPIP (The remote server is not a known TCP/IP host.)

Checking for edms/dname on LAN0 using address ‘edms’

Unable to connect to edms/dname on LAN0 (Remote system not responding)

Checking low and normal priority connection documents…

Local network connection document found for edms/dname

Verifying address ‘www.dname.net’ for edms/dname on TCPIP

Unable to connect to edms/dname on TCPIP (The server is not responding. The server may be down or you may be experiencing network problems. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists.)

No default passthru server defined

Server edms/dname is not responding

Subject: Try using the IP Address . . .

. . instead of the server name.Ctrl-O and type in the public IP address of the server in the server name field and click on Open.

If it connects, then the problem you have requires a connection document in your address book. If it does not, you have a firewall issue (port 1352 is not open most likely).

If you need to create a connection document, refer to Administrator Help
