How is the lookahead for the To field in the email memo form determined?

If I add secondary addressbooks in the preferences, then the lookahead in the To field will grab contacts in these addressbooks. However, I created a new database that’s a custom addressbook, however, the lookahead does not grab contacts in this db.

What views, fields, etc. do I need to have in my new addressbook to make this work?

Thanks in advance.

I believe a ($Users) view must exist in order for the type-ahead lookup to work. Why can you just use a existing pernames.ntf for the base design of your contacts db?

I’ll describe what you have to do as a developer to create a lookahead name field and that should explain how it works.

The To field must be a “Names” type field.

In the Choices pane of the second tab of the field properties select “Use Address Dialog”

Check the “Lookup Names as each character is entered” check box in the Options section of the same tab.

The only other consideration is a user can defeat the feature by changing a setting on his location document.

On the Mail tab of the Location document

Recipient name type-ahead:

Local then Server

Activate recipient name type-ahead:

On Each Character

These two fields need to be set as shown.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the response, however, I was able to solve the problem by copying the LotusScript code from the QuerySave module of the Person form in the address book template and pasting it into my form in the customized database. Worked like a champ!
