How i Can reset Domino UserID password?

I have Some Problem With registared user Personal Document in Notes Domino.

hair is the scenario,

When I first create some new registered users in domino; I set the user password to (abc123) for all users. I hope users will change there password as they desire (at least 6 char).

Also, I found that when a user change his password, its only change his local UserID.id file. If this user setup a new notes client application and try to connect and join to domino, the old password (123) is require to login, !!!not the user desire password, what he just set before.

So, how can I reset the domino userid password. IS THIS really POSSIABLE? Pls Help.

Hello,

first and importants. Never store user id in domino directory. Use other options to store new user id and give the user id as an file.

It isn’t possible to reset a password from an id stored in adressbook. Make copies from the id file on an safe place and delete all ID files stored in adressbook. Many admin store id files in adressbook and in most cases is lastname or something else the password. Any user with access to the domino directory can download id file and has access to all mailaccounts with original id file.

Hi,

The Domino users security systems is based on .id files. This files contains the encrypted password that you specify in the user creation process.

When you configure a new workstation and you set up a new Notes client in a PC, you have to select the .id file. If you answer yes to question “You want to copy the ID file in your hard disk ?” this new copy of .id is different and the user will work always with this one. So you have two different .id files that could contain different passwords.

One solution could be to use a network drive with all the .id files and never answer YES to the question of copying the .id file to he PC hard disk when you configure every Notes client.

See you …

And then all your users have access to all other’s id files. Not good! ID files need to be locked down - even if a user changes his/her password, most people just aren’t good at setting a secure password that no one else can guess.

Two solutions – use password recovery, great feature of Notes, allows you to “reset” the password, in case a user forgets it, loses his ID file and uses a different one, etc. Also, you might look at ID recovery, which allows you to “recover” an ID file that has been deleted, corrupt, or in some way cannot be used, and you have no backup.

Keep backups of original ID files in a SECURE location, where only your Notes admins, and possibly a key helpdesk person, have access.

If you do this, you need to make sure that you update these when users get renamed, so they are always current.
