In daze of yore one could right-click in the lower right corner of the Notes Client status bar to set preferences there. That doesn’t work, or at least it doesn’t for me, using R8.5.1FP2.

Searching preferences (stellar functionality, searching the zillions of preferences) for “status” only gives Sametime stuff. “Noti” and “pref” are the same. “Bar” gives nothing. Searching this forum for “status bar” AND prefrence gives a handful of hits about crashes, and one “What’s new” which contains no reference to the status bar. Taking out “preferences” to search just for “status bar” gives 61 hits, the one closest in relevancy being that the “Quick Pick” on the lower right of the status bar has gone the way of the Dodo Bird. That’s more than a little sad, because it was right convenient, but there it is. Given this I fear preferences may have “not made it”, either, which would also be sad.
Is it no longer possible to set status bar preferences? If not, are there plans to fix it. It’s not quite so puffy to have years-existing functionality simply vanish…
Subject: Status bar
David! Seriously, you really think IBM might just change stuff over versions without any user notification, testing or taking an online poll to see if stuff should be kept? Removing solid functionality to replace it with buggy java and eclipse code? Never!!! IBM would -never- do that.
I’m this >.< close from ditching Notes altogther because of what IBM have done to the client over recent years. IT SUCKS, IBM. I’m expecting the Workspace to be gone in v9, and when it is, I’m switching to Exchange. I’ll be done with it…
Adding features like DAOS, Message Recall, On-The-Fly spellcheck and integrated chat and calling them “new” when every other system has had them for years, just shows you treat a very loyal customer base like marks.

… yet here I am. Like most traits persistence is a two-edged sword…
Subject: Designer Help …what a mess!
I’ve never in my fifteen years with Notes development seen a version that has destroyed the ability to get help like the 8.X help for designer. What a frigging piece of junk! Must have been written by non-English speakers in a non-English speaking country. How about it IBM? If you can’t do it better, at least emulate the competition before it swallows you.
Subject: What options did it offer?
I never there were status bar preference options available. What did they let you change?

- I have to say, however, that the thing I wanted isn’t listed there. This must have also gone the way of the Dodo Bird: the client no longer gives me a progress bar when refreshing design. I can see this clearly in the Admin client window’s status bar, but the Notes client doesn’t bother to show it. Neither does DDE.
Seriously uncool, Lotus…
Subject: Progress bar
I can help with that… when a task is happening you might see 3 little blue bars strobing left to right. Click the up-arrow there. It will open a new tab window with the progress bar and details of the task.
The reason it’s like this, is the Notes standard client. Java. Use Notes Basic (which is what Admin is based off) and you get old-school Notes. Maybe there you will find what you seek.
IBM, listen up and listen good - ECLIPSE SUCKS, JAVA SUCKS and your spanking new client SUCKS BECAUSE OF IT. (I still love Domino server though.)
