How do I turn off tool tips in DDE?

  • I searched for “disable AND tool”, “disable AND tips”, “tool tips”, “tips”, “tool”, and found nothing relating to this in the forum.- I know Eclipse lets me turn off tool tips, but I can’t find it. I found a thing that’s supposed to turn off pop-ups in panels, but it had no effect. In essence I find tool tips distracting, flickering on and off like rendering errors in a video game as I move the mouse, and I’m trying to disable them system-wide.

  • It’s nice that preferences has a filter. That doesn’t give any results that work, however it is how I found the panel thing.

P.S. I don’t see workspace preferences in the editor. I have to load help, where it says I use Window → Preferences to load the dialog. I see no Preferences under the Window menu, greyed out or otherwise. I have to load help, browse to the Workspace Preferences entry, and click the link to open the dialog.

Hi David. You can get to preferences in DDE by choosing File - Preferences. The options for turning off pop-ups in the property panels are in the main Domino Designer Preferences. Are these the options you tried that didn’t work?

You may wonder why Preferences are on the File menu. In this instance, we chose to match Notes rather than Eclipse.

Subject: This would in fact be the settings that are ignored…

  • If I clear these check boxes, the Controls pane still pops tool tips that conveniently hide what I’m trying to read.- If I could even change the pop-up timeout, and have it work, that could be useful. The biggest issue is the tooltips pop up so quickly … I barely have to stop on something and BANG, content is hidden. Once the tips appear I must move the cursor out of the Controls pane, wait for the tip to disappear, then move it back.

  • I’d be even happier if tips didn’t appear at all until I did something, like press CTRL or ALT, so tooltips are blessedly not in the way until they are explicitly called for.

  • I think tooltips are great, but I’d rather not have them at all rather than have them constantly “in my face”.

  • It also occurs to me to wonder if a Custom Control can define a tooltip for itself? I don’t see anything about it here in the forum. Since they pop tips (presumably using the currently in-effect settings) it could be neat to remind one’s self what their controls do. (grin)

Subject: Nothing affects tool tips at all, anywhere…

  • I have the Panels pop-ups turned off, and I’ve unchecked every single thing I can find that looks like it might even have some passing relation to tool tips. Nothing works. Period.- I continually get tool tips in all DDE windows.

  • I continually get code completion.

  • I never get code folding.

  • Certainly there is some way to fix this? Or at least set the delay to something other than “instantly”? This isn’t Eclipse if it doesn’t provide control over the environment.
