How do I create a secondary Directory unafiliated with a domain to be accessed through Directory Services

Hi Folks,Hope someone can help me.

I want to create a secondary directory that contains clients’ email addresses only and configure Directory Assistance so we can look up clients’ addresses when creating an email. I am having problems with Directory Assistance in this regard in that I have created a secondary directory and made an appropriate entry into the DA Database. This doesn’t seem to work.

Following is quote from Administrators Help file:

“Domino provides directory catalogs and directory assistance to help companies operate in environments with secondary directories. A secondary directory is any server-based directory that is not a server’s primary Domino Directory. A secondary directory can be a Domino Directory for a different Domino domain, a Domino Directory that you create manually from the PUBNAMES.NTF template that is unaffiliated with a Domino domain …”

Question:

How does one create a secondary directory that is not assocaiated with a domain, and then be able to access this directory through Directory Assistance?

Hope you can help

cheers

Peter

When you create that entry in the Directory Assistance database, a field on the configuration document is labeled “domain name”. Enter something unique here. Anything. It doesn’t matter. “CUST” would be okay. Each entry in Directory Assistance must have a unique domain name.

Hi Roger,Thanks for your help … it is much appreciated.

I have done this but it still doesn’t seem to work. My database called externalnames isn’t being listed in the choose address book dialog as are the other databases accessable from Directory Assistance.

I have created the database from the pubnames template … one thing I am curious about though is that this database when opened presents a profile document and asks what domain it is for. I have experimented with a number of options for this including the current domain to making one up. Would this stop this from working.

when opened presents a profile documentYou can ignore that profile document.

Did you remember to reboot the server?
