How can U have Domino route outgoing mail thru different SMTP server?

I am having a problem with mail being rejected by some of the larger domains (aol.com, earthlink.net, mindspring, hotmail)due to them not liking my IP#. My ISP is trying to help, but meanwhile anything that goes out my Domino server using the static IP they have given me, comes back. We are trying to handle that with them, but it’s like trying to tear down a wall… one brick at a time.

Meanwhile, my ISP has suggested that while I can receive incoming internet mail thru my Domino server, I should consider sending my outgoing mail thru their SMTP server until this is resolved. HUH? Unless Im just having a brain fart… I don’t know how to do that? Can we do that? Is there a setting somewhere that I have forgotten about that I can specify Domino shoul d use smtp.someoneelse.com as the outgoing mail?

Please…

Thanks

Ruth

In the Configuration document for the server that handles your outgoing email…

(Need to restart the SMTP task for it to take effect, or wait about 15 mins)

seems like you have a problem similar to mine, but maybe i can help you.

open (edit) the configuration of your server (server directoy->configurations->servers). switch to ‘Router/SMTP’. look for ‘Realy host for…’ and enter the IP address of your ISP’s SMTP server.

now restart the router service (tell router stop/start i think).

only problem: if the ISP requests quthentication to use their server your as far as i am

?

Subject: Yes you can. You can use ip, hostname or Domino server name there.

Hi Stefan,

I have the same problem that I have to authorize me at the ISP … i think that’s a german special problem, because nobody seems to know an answer! If you do, please inform me asap!

Thanks a lot!

Subject: yup, that did it

thanks, thats what did it

Subject: Search the Admin help for Smart Host

Subject: Didnt need Smart Host

Just had to put the server name (mail.whatever.com) in the “Relay host for messages leaving the local internet domain:” field on the Configuration document. Works fine now. Smart Host is for Internal routing.
