How are bookmarks stored in bookmark.nsf?

I thought bookmarks were stored as documents, but if I:

  1. Create a “design only” database copy of the bookmark.nsf file

  2. Close Notes and delete the desktop6.ndk and cache.ndk

  3. Replace the original bookmark.nsf file with the copy (and make sure the filename is bookmark.nsf)

WAAALA!..all the bookmark documents are recreated. This is what I want to happen, but I’m just curious as to how it works. Are these bookmarks somehow stored as design elements in the bookmark.nsf?
