Do anyone know about how to interface HL7 (Health Level Seven) with Lotus notes domino? I am beginner in Lotus domino. I work for a small Health institute, they want to access HL7 messages/documents from other hospitals.
I looked at some information at www.hl7.org and some other sites, I understood that HL7 is a specification of how to convert various healthcare data but I am all confused on how it works in terms of sharing between hospitals in software point of view.
To my understanding, we have to have a middleware interface (may be using java/corba) to talk to HL7 protocol and get the ascii data (messages) and store them as files. And then process those ascill files into notes documents as we need. Is that right?
Is there a way that domino server can get HL7 messages? Are there any tools existing for doing these?
Anybody having any idea, please help me. I am totally unaware of how this thing works.
