Hide Column in View with Hide Column Formula

I’m trying to hide a column in a view using the “Hide column if formula is true”, however it isn’t working.

I know that the formula I’m using works as I’ve also used it to hide text successfully on a web page with the “Hide paragraph is formula is true” feature.

The formula is: !(@UserRoles = “[Leader]”) and the roles are set up correctly in the ACL.

When the “Hide column if formula is true” is ticked, the column is hidden from all users, both those with and without the Leader role, not just those users that don’t have a Leader role.

Is there something with the column hiding that I’m missing? Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone else had any problems with this feature?

For your hide-when formula, try this:

@IsNotMember(“[Leader]”; @UserRoles)

hope that helps.

I’ve tried changing the hide-formula to @IsNotMember(“[Leader]”; @UserRoles), however, it still doesn’t work. :frowning: Thanks for your suggestion.

May be a silly question, but is the database local or on a server?

I believe the only silly question is the unasked question. Database is on a server.

Carla,

Sometimes group membership can affect a hide when.

If you remove all ACL entries except your own user and then turn the role on/off, does it work as designed?

Shawn,

Did as you suggested and it’s still not working as designed. After doing that even added a new role to the database and tried to use that one, but get the same behaviour with the new role, as with the role. Thank-you for your input.

Carla,

Put @True in the formula window and see if the column is gone.

If it’s not then there is something wrong elsewhere and not in your formula.

A few years ago I messed around with these dynamically hidden columns and found that they were a bit of a bear, and I haven’t been back since. That said, I’m pretty sure the issue is a refresh and that “evaluate” setting.

Try clicking out of the view and back in.

Try sh-F9

Use your mouse to click on some different rows to force the “evaluate”

Try F5 to force a login and re-evaluation of your user credentials

Try @Contains(@UserName; “Shawn”) just to do a proof of concept on the whole thing without introducing roles/groups

If memory serves, one of these tests will bring the results to the surface and then you can decide if the feature is usable for your purposes.

A bit late, sorry, but surely this is the answer:

@UserRoles does not work in column formulas

Carla,

It’s been a while since I played around with that, but I seem to recall cases where you needed the view property “evaluate actions for every document change” checked on. Maybe I’m thinking only of cases where your hide-when references document values …

Hi Raphael,

I’ve tried ticking “Evaluate actions for every document change” and there’s still no difference between leader and non leader, i.e. column still displays for both. Thanks for your suggestion though. Anything else that you can think of?
