Hide Attachments in Notes Client. Mission: Impossible

Hi,I know this is an old chestnut and has been covered many times in this forum. I have read every word that has been written on the subject and I still can’t get this feature to work.

I have added a Computed-For-Display field called $V2AttachmentOptions and set the value to “0”. I tried with $vattachmentsOptions, too.

Case1:

I have a hidden RTF.

I attach, and save the document, several times without closing document.

Problems:

  • When I close and open it again, attachment appears in the botton of the document.

  • And the RTF doesn’t contain the attachment.

Case2:

I haven’t any hidden RTF in my form.

I create the RTF with Lotus Script code.

You can save the doc without saving it,several times. And the RTF stores the attachments.

Problems:

 - When you close and open the document again attachments are in the bottom.

It isn’t a solution to store contents as HTML and MIME.

I know other people are experiencing the same problem and my questions are:

  • isn’t there any solution to this problem?

  • isn’t it possible to hide attachments in notes client?

  • can’t notes resolve this subject?

  • can anyone orient or give me a right way to get to hide them?

Thanks in advance,

Julian

The only way I know to hide an attachment icon is to put it into a RTF that’s in a hidden section. That way, since the icon is in a RTF it won’t be on the bottom of the screen, but as the section is hidden, the user won’t see it.

But it will be ok, when the attachment is linked to the RTF. The problem is that attachment isn’t linked to th RTF.

I have tried what you tell me, but the problem is the same.

I attach, and save the document several times without closing it. When I close and open it again, I see doc properties, there isn’t any attachment in the RTF, it’s empty. But there is an attach in the document, and this is the reason because of seeing it in the bottom of the form.

Graham, have you tried what I tell you? don’t you get the same?.

I think this stuff is pulling of my leg!!!

Ah - then I think you are saying that file SHOULD be in the RTF, but it’s not ?

It’s worth emphasizing here that files are attached to documents, not to fields - the field only has a pointer to the attachment, so you can control where it shows in the form.

I suspect you have some script somewhere that is manipulating the RTF. For example, if you save the document from the UI and then a script deletes the RTF from the document, the attachment is still in the document and will be at the bottom under that line, which is where files attached to documents that don’t have RTF pointers are displayed.

I could also see this happening if you are manipulating the RTF in the background document while the UI document is still open in the client.

I hope that might lead you in the direction of the problem.
