I have a Win XP laptop and I always use hibernate mode rather than shutdown. I can go a week or two without ever rebooting or shutting the laptop down by using hibernate.
However, I have noticed that whenever I come out of hibernate, Lotus Notes 8.0.1 will fail to connect to the Sametime server. I believe I saw this with earlier versions of Notes as well. I always have to close notes and then reopen it in order to get it to connect to the server.
Any ideas why this is the case?

Subject: Hibernating Laptops
For many years I have had problems with laptop users never shutting down the machine properly, never restarting Notes. This just causes problems, some unusual effects and things that are just plain crazy. Reboot the pc properly at least every 2-3 days. There are aspects of Notes that use the Startup run to validate fields, check certificates/policies etc. If you leave off the reboots, I gaurantee the machine will behave oddly
Subject: Sleep mode too
Sleep mode does it to me as well. It is very common to put the laptop in sleep mode in a meeting and then walk back to the office and dock it.
I appreciate your response, but it is kind of like the joke about the guy that goes into his doctor and says “It hurts when I do this” and the doctor says “Then don’t do that.”
