Install Notes 8 first.
Install previous version (including 6.5) following completion of the Notes 8 install - ensure you choose a different installation directory for Program files and Data.
Modify registry keys as appropriate.
Registry keys will be created in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Notes
Notes 8.* Standard requires the registry keys to function correctly, previous versions of Notes (including Notes 8.* BASIC) do NOT require registry keys to function normally.
To run both versions simultaneously:
Remove registry keys for Notes 6 (eg: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Notes\6.5).
Ensure that BOTH the following keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Notes
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lotus\Notes\8.*
Point to your Existing Lotus Notes 8 Program and Data path’s
In the Notes - 6, 7, 8 BASIC - program folder, locate nlnotes.exe, create a copy of this file. I normally rename this file something like Notes65.exe. Create a short-cut to this new copy of nlnotes.exe on your Windows desktop or Start-Menu.
To run both versions simultaneously, start Notes 8 FIRST, then whichever previous versions you also want to execute.
I use this method to simultaneously run Notes 8.5, Notes 7 and Notes 6.
Note: It is also possible to skip step 2 - above - if you have an existing Notes installation on another machine, you can simply copy the entire “Lotus” directory to your computer. Once you have copied the Lotus Program and Data directories to your machine, make sure the “Directory=” line in the Notes.ini points to the correct location on your current computer. THIS OPTION EXCLUDES THE ECLIPSE (NOTES 8 “STANDARD”) VERSION OF NOTES - THIS VERSION MUST BE INSTALLED USING THE SOFTWARE INSTALLER.
